Phnom Penh (FN), September 1 - A young Cambodian woman who involved in human trafficking case was sent to Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Friday, a police official said.

So Vandy, deputy chief of anti-human trafficking department of Interior Ministry said a Cambodian woman, U Rarin, 26, was arrested on August 31 and was sent to Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Friday for which she is expected to be charged with trafficking 26 Cambodian women to work as housemaids in Malaysia.

So Vandy said the suspect had successfully convinced the 26 victims to work in Malaysia from 2014 with the promises of giving them $300 to $400 per month.

The victims arrived in Malaysia through Phnom Penh International Airport and Poi Pet border checkpoint and Thailand.

Vandy, meanwhile, said the suspect had received a large sum of money from a Malaysian broker identified as Ho, a compensation of $1,500 for one housemaid, and after which Ho took them to work at his designated places for 18 hours per day without rest.

Of the 26, 16 were from Kompong Cham province, 6 from Kompong Thom and the rest of two came from Kompong Chhnang province.

With the interventions from Cambodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and concerned authorities, the victims have been rescued and sent back home one after another.
