Phnom Penh (FN), September 22 - The National Election Committee (NEC) began voting registration and voter list updates.

The process will take 70 days from September 1 to November 9, 2017.

Hang Puthea, a spokesman for the NEC, confirmed that the new voter registration was held only for eligible voters who have not yet registered voting in 2016, and those who registered to vote in 2016, but have moved to another commune.

In order to register for the new 2017 election, citizens must have a Cambodian ID or a valid identification document.

NEC indicated that among 15,883,250 Cambodians, there are 9,788,239 eligible voters (As of Election Day). So far, 7,865,033 people have registered, while NEC expects 1,412,149 more to register.
