Phnom Penh (FN), September 28 – Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong praised China's role for the current progress and prosperity of Cambodia.

"I can confirm that Cambodia’s current development in all sectors cannot be cut off from the support of the Chinese government and people,” stated Hor Namhong.

The remark was made at the celebration of the 68th anniversary of the People's Republic of China, which was held in Phnom Penh on Thursday.

Hor Namhong thanked the Chinese government and people for supporting Cambodia, transforming Cambodia from a low-income country to a middle-income, and expecting to reach a high-income country by 2030.

He also mentioned the progress of Cambodia-China relationship that have made positive progress, gained mutual trust, support and respect.

He added that some of the achievements were made from the ties of the two countries, including bilateral trade volume of over US$4 billion in 2016 and is expected to reach $5 billion in 2017 and $6 billion by 2020.

By 2017, China imported 200,000 tons of rice from Cambodia, and it will rise to 300,000 tons by 2018.

China's investment in Cambodia ranges from agriculture to industry to energy and to construction, especially building new roads and bridges across the Mekong, Tonle Sap and Tonle Bassac, as well as expanding the number of electricity generated in Cambodia.
