Phnom Penh (FN), Nov. 23 – Director General of Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) Heng Ratana claimed that the content on demining tender provided in the US Embassy’s press release was contrary to the U.S Department of State’s press release.

"On November 22, the U.S Embassy's press release in Phnom Penh and the statement of the U.S Department of State, I have received, have been completely contradictory,” stated Heng Ratana.

“Is it because of the ability of English translator to translate it into Khmer language or from deliberate attempts to? First, this budget is not for mine disposal, but for cluster munitions. Second, $4 million grant for 2018-2019, not $2 million. Third, the goal is to research and clear cluster bombs and remnants in Cambodia. However, we welcome the commitment of the people and the U.S government for supporting the demining activities,” he added.

The U.S Embassy in Cambodia issued a press release on Wednesday announcing a $2 million, one-year grant to survey and clear unexploded ordnance in eastern Cambodia.
