Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 10 - The Department of Communicable Disease of the Ministry of Health announced on Sunday morning the spread of bird flu H5N1 in Prey Chor District, Kampong Cham Province.

The Ministry of Health urged the public to take precautious steps such as cooking properly and not eating dead chicken, duck or other birds, especially in the upcoming events, such as new year.

From 2005 to 2014, there have been 56 bird flu cases with 37 deaths. In 2013, there were over 26 cases with 14 deaths and in 2014, 9 cases with 4 deaths.

Any patient who experiences fever above 38.5 degree Celsius, coughing, sore throat, shortness of breath, tiredness and has been in touch with dead birds for a period of 7 days must be taken to the nearby hospital immediately for treatment.
