PYONGYANG, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) top leader Kim Jong Un attended the 8th Conference of Munitions Industry which was opened here Monday, state media reported Tuesday.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said the conference was set to review the achievements and experience in the munitions industry and discuss measures to usher in a heyday of development of the Juche-based defense industry under the banner of simultaneously developing the two fronts.

Juche, meaning self-reliance, is an ideology in the DPRK for achieving absolute independence in political, economic, military and international affairs.

Simultaneously developing the two fronts is a policy adopted by Kim, which stresses the development of economic construction and nuclear force at the same time, providing a legal foundation for bolstering the nuclear force in the DPRK.

According to the KCNA, Thae Jong Su, politburo member and vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea said at the conference that the DPRK's national defense industry has now entered a fresh heyday of its development, thanks to Kim's leadership and policy.

"This became as a historic turning point in putting the DPRK on the position of a matchless nuclear weapons state and hastening the final victory in the showdown with the U.S. and the cause of building a powerful socialist nation," he said.

Senior officials from the army and the Workers' Party as well as "contributors to the successful test-fire of ICBM Hwasong-15," among others, participated in the conference.
