PHNOM PENH (FN), March 14 — Head of the Asian Development Bank in Cambodia said the bank would increase capital funds and loans to $200 million for Cambodia’s development programs by 2017.

In a discussion meeting with Senior Minister, Minister of Commerce Sun Chanthol on March 14, ADB Country Director Samiuela T. Tukuafu said that the capital funds and loans by ADB would be used mainly for rural infrastructure, inter-sectoral financial issues, public financial management and human resource management that would provide Cambodian people the opportunity to obtain higher education and vocational training.

Tukuafu hailed in the meeting good collaboration between the Ministry of Commerce and ADB and is looking forward to further collaboration with regard to the implementation of the medium-term strategic plan to further consult.

With the support and appreciation from ADB, Sun Chanthol, on his responsibility, requested for additional support from ADB for a number of issues that include capacity development, law on competitiveness and consumer protection that has not yet been completed, areas of priority that have already been defined and support for the initiatives on consumption of Cambodian products that would help enhance the development of local branding and products.
