Phnom Penh (FN) March 17 – Prime Minister Hun Sen revealed that a group of eight ministers will be reshuffled; some will be replaced, while others will be transferred from one ministry to the other. Besides, four governors will be place in retirement prior to the determined dateline. The reshuffle aims to strengthen work effectiveness, he added.

During a university’s graduation ceremony in the morning of March 17, 2016, the premier said that the decision to reshuffle the cabinet was made solely by himself without the knowledge of any Deputy Prime Minister nor any minister. The National Assembly sets to vote on the new cabinet composition on April 4, 2016, he said.

“According to the plan, on April 4, there will be a vote on the reshuffled government for it to become more effective. The changing does not imply any minister is bad. However it is a fact that some assigned ministers are not very active and hence we just want to see an improvement,” stated Prime Minister Hun Sen.

He also called on all the ministers affected by the reshuffle to go on with their routine duties pending the Royal Decree’s issued by His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni. “I would like to take this opportunity to talk to those ministers who are aware of their removal or transfer to remain in their seats until the issuance of the Royal Decree,” said the premier adding that some ministers had already submitted letters of resignation, while others would like to be transferred to other institutions such as the Constitutional Council.

According to the premier, the governors to be placed in retirement include governors of Kampot, Kompong Speu, Svay Rieng, and Banteay Meanchey, all of whom will be assistant to the Royal Government of Cambodia.
