Phnom Penh (FN), March 27 – Military Police in cooperation with custom office of the Cambodia-Thailand border town of Poi Pet (about 400km to the west of Phnom Penh) arrested two Vietnamese nationals later on March 25, for importing into Cambodia locally-made rifles and gas-fire guns from the neighboring Thailand.

An official of Poi Pet’s Customs and Excise Office said that suspicious of the weapons being hidden in handy goods-trailers when they arrived at the checkpoints, the customs sought cooperation from Poi Pet’s Military Police to conduct a search of the pulling-carts and finally found 16 locally-made rifles, six gas-fire guns and 78 rounds of ammunition. Two Vietnamese nationals were then arrested, said the customs official.

Chea Da, Poi Pet’s Military Police commander, on March 26 identified the two suspected importers as NGUYEN HONG PHUC, 37, and BUI VAN MANH, 26, both of whom have permanent residence in Vietnam. The two suspects and the evidence have been now sent to the provincial Military Police for further actions to be taken according to the legal procedure.
