Phnom Penh (FN), March 27 – Prime Minister Hun Sen’s eldest son, Hun Manet and his working group finally decided this morning of March 27, not to attend the Khmer New Year parade scheduled to take place early April in Long Beach, California, U.S.A., according to a post on Gen. Manet’s Facebook page.

The reasons for the decision to drop out his attendance is that he does not want to see further confrontation between Khmers and Khmers and that he wants to avoid violence that may eventually happen between supporters and opponents to his participation which would only result in a loss to the nation of Cambodia as a whole, the Facebook post says.
“I would like to apologize to hose brothers and sisters who support my participation for my decision to stay out of the event, and please go on participating in the parade as many as possible so that the event would be a great celebration that demonstrates strong solidarity among Khmers and Khmer as a single national,” said Gen. Manet in the Facebook.

While skipping the parade, Gen. Manet also said he was hopeful to be able to meet with those Cambodian-Americans at some other programs and events during the celebration of traditional Khmer New Year in a the feature of a great Cambodian family.
