Phnom Penh (FN), March 29 – The plenary session of the 9th Session of Cambodia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation presided over by Cambodian Chief Diplomat Hor Namhong and H.E Mr. Nikolay Nikiforov, Minister of Telecom and Mass Communication of the Russian Federation was held this morning on March 29, 2016.

The two-day session focuses on bilateral relation including security and law enforcement, military technique, trade and investment, tourism, agriculture, IT, civil aviation, science, education, culture, health, and energy. The meeting provided fruitful results while improve the relations of both sides.

The Russian side was satisfied with the result of the visits of the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on December 2015 and looking forward to welcome Prime Minsiter Hun Sen to Moscow in May 2016. Both sides welcome the result of the meeting of Cambodia-Russia senior working group in charge of joint project by drafting project proposal on the cooperation of trade, economy, and investment of Cambodia-Russia 2020. Russia invites Cambodia to attend 20th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Sept. 2-3, 2016 in Vladivostok.

Regarding tourism sector, Cambodia requested Russia to train tour guides to learn Russian. Talking about health, Cambodia requested Russia for more fund to rehabilitate Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital to provide technical training, experience exchange, and pharmaceutical and medical equipment.

Both sides are interested in expanding the agriculture trade by importing more rice from Cambodia. Both sides agreed to sign MoU on Open Joint Venture between ENEX Company and Ministry of Mine and Energy to study on hydroelectric project “Steoung Battambang 2” with 36 megawatts power. Both sides agreed to arrange the 10th Session of Cambodia-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation in Russia in 2017.
