Phnom Penh (FN), March 29 – As part of the efforts to help children that are out of school for different reasons, a number of primary schools in Stong and Svay Rolum districts, Kampong Thom Province, about 200 km to the north-west of Phnom Penh, are in the process of designing pilot projects and participated in a series of two consultation workshops on March 28-29 that was organized by an international children education organization, Aide-et-Actions (AEA) and a local partner, Youth Stars.

One of the workshops was held on March 28, in Stong district with over 60 participants that include representative of Kampong Thom Provincial Office of Education, Stong Deputy District Governor, Stong District Council member, and school principals, members of School Supporting Committee, and Commune chiefs.
Eam Bunny, representative of Kampong Thom Provincial Office of Education who presided over the opening of the workshop in Stong province was impressed by the projects as well as others being implemented by AEA. “I am very happy that some NOGs have contributed to further development of the education in the province and especially the Electronic Library being implemented at some locations in the country is interesting and I expect that it will come to Kampog Thom soon,” said Bunny.
The other similar workshop was held in Svay Rolum district for about 30 participants to discuss four proposals each submitted by four schools in each district. After the discussions and clarification, and once agreed upon by both funder and the project owners, the applicants can then start the project implementation right away with focus mainly on children of poor family, disabled children and orphans.
The project is part of a larger one called Cambodia Consortium for Out Of School Children (CCOSC) being implemented jointly by a group of 22 NGOs that works on either children issues or education, and with funding support from the Qatar-based Educate A Child (EAC). The project has set a target of at least 57,000 out-of-school children for a period of 3 years.
