Phnom Penh (FN), May 3 – In groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Shangri-la Hotel in the morning of May 3, Senior Minister and Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction Chea Sophara strongly warned particularly foreign construction companies against failure to uphold proper construction technical standards and to strictly follow legal instruments, or they will be reported to their Embassies to be put on blacklists.

This five-star hotel with a capital investment of $580 million by Oxley-Gem and World Bridge Land is located in the west of Bassac River, featuring 55 floors and 300 rooms.

In the ceremony, Sophara, also a former Phnom Penh Governor said from now on he will take serious actions to make sure all constructions are in compliance with the legal instruments and construction technical standards. He added that legal actions would also be taken if needed.

“Why construction firms always obey the laws in other countries and not in Cambodia?” questioning Sophara.

Finally, Sophara expressed his delight that the firm has chosen Cambodia for its investments saying “It demonstrates the investor’s confidence in the country’s long-term peace and stability under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen.”
