Phnom Penh (FN), July 16 - The National Election Committee (NEC) decided not to amend section 8.11.1 of the Order and Procedures for the general election concerning ticking ballot papers, which was requested by the League for Democracy Party (LDP), according to a NEC’s letter dated on 15 July 2018 addressed to the President of LDP.

“NEC would like to inform the president of LDP that NEC has already received letter from LDP requesting to amend section 8.11.1 of the Order and Procedures for the Election of the 6th Mandate of the 2nd Mandate on 12 July 2018,” NEC wrote in the letter.

"After having carefully examined the legal and technical aspects of the past election practice, the NEC would like to inform that NEC could not amend the requested section,” NEC added.

The vote clearly demonstrates people’s willingness by marking the ballot papers.

Signs like tick or X or + or – or / or \ or V or U or 0 or ( or ) or ~ are accepted as a valid vote in order to reduce the number of invalid votes, according to Dim Sovannarom, spokesperson of the NEC.

However, the NEC still encouraged voters to properly tick within the square rectangular box of her or his favorite political parties.
