Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 3 - Minister of Commerce Pan Sorasak on Friday morning requested Chinese delegates to consider investing in processing potential agricultural products in Battambang for domestic market and exports to China.

The request was made in a meeting with Yang Guoping, chairman of the board of Global Ecological Co., Ltd., Hunan, who led his colleagues to conduct feasibility study on expanding rice milling factories in Battambang province and to explore the potential of investment in Siem Reap and Sihanoukville provinces.

Minister of Commerce informed the Chinese delegates the challenges of rice sector, potential crops such as longans, mangoes corns, and cassava as well as the benefits of building additional dryer machines to store crops in the longer periods to focusing on promoting value chain and serving local demand and exports.

He also highlighted the potential of Sihanoukville, Cambodia's major economic hub, and the province with a deep-water port and multi-purpose port, alongside special economic zone occupied by more than 100 factories; greater than this, the continued development of infrastructure and transportation sectors.

Yang Guoping expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm on trade, agriculture, industry and tourism in Cambodia.

He pledged to bring this information to the Governor of Hunan province, who will pay an official visit to Cambodia in November, and to urge the Association of Businesses and Investors in Hunan Province to invest in Cambodia.
