Phnom Penh (FN), August 13 - The Indonesian government appreciated the process of Cambodian 6th National Assembly election, which was held on July 29, 2018, stating that the elections were conducted smoothly, fairly and accurately, with high security and safety guaranteed for the voters.

The announcement was made by Sudirman Haseng, newly-appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Cambodia, on Monday during a courtesy call on Khoung Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh.

Khuong Sreng highlighted the success of the 6th National Assembly election without causing any fear to the people living and doing business, which was better compared to national election in 2013.

Following multiple verifications, voter turnout in the 6th National Assembly members election in 2018 has increased from 82.89% to 83.02%, an equivalent of 6,956,900 voters among the 8,380,217 million registered voters, according to the preliminary result announced by the National Election Committee (NEC) on Saturday.

The election process has been highly appreciated by national and international observers from the 52 countries as a free, fair, just, and non-violent.

Khoung Sreng also informed the ambassador the progress of Phnom Penh capital city with rapid growth of the economy through investment and infrastructure.

Concerning the continued increase of population, the governor raised some of the challenges, including traffic and environmental issues, particularly waste management.

The ambassador said Indonesia will continue to strengthen diplomatic relations and cooperation, especially greater investment and tourism between the two countries.

Indonesia and Cambodia will jointly organize tourism trade fairs at the Diamond Island Exhibition and Convention Center, on September 17-20, 2018, with more than 100 exhibitors displaying their products.
