PHNOM PENH, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia began the three-day celebrations of the 63rd birthday of King Norodom Sihamoni on Friday.

Blessing messages from the leaders of the Senate, the National Assembly, and the government have been read on television channels and radios, and published on newspapers or posted on online media.

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Prime Minister Hun Sen hailed the king for his noble mission inside and outside the country, which has greatly contributed to boosting socio-economic development toward prosperity and glory.

According to the National Committee for Organizing National and International Festivals, fireworks will be shown on Saturday evening over Tonle Sap River in front of the Royal Palace.

Usually, the king does not host any lavish celebrations on his birthday, but a modest Buddhist ceremony at the Royal Palace.

Sihamoni was born on May 14, 1953. He was inaugurated as the King of Cambodia on October 29, 2004 after his father late King Norodom Sihanouk abdicated due to health problems.
