Phnom Penh (FN), August 29 – Former opposition leader Kem Sokha’s lawyer claimed that the court will announce verdict at 2 P.M Thursday following a hearing this morning.

Phnom Penh Municipal Court (PPMC) held a small hearing on Thursday in the prison led by prosecutors Ky Rithy and Sieng Sok with the attendances of Sokha’s four lawyers to decide whether to extend Kem Sokha's pre-trial detention.

In March 2018, Phnom Penh Municipal Court decided to detain Kem Sokha for six months to further investigate his crimes.

Kem Sokha was arrested at his house in Toul Kok, Phnom Penh at 00:35 am on 3 September 2017. Sokha appeared in a video published by CBN, speaking of his plans supported by foreigners to topple the legitimate government of Cambodia. His offence subjects to a penalty of 15 to 30 years in prison based on Criminal Code, charged with “conspiring with foreigners”.

Sokha is currently detained in Tropang Phlong prison in Tbong Khmum province.
