Phnom Penh (FN), Sept. 13 - Ney Sam Ol, Ambassador/Permanent Representative of Cambodia to the United Nations Office at Geneva stated that the release of former opposition leader Kem Sokha was based on humanitarian act and court's discretion, speaking at the 39th Session of the Human Rights Council, held on 11 September 2018 (GMT+2).

"The government has no role to play in judicial proceeding, which is an independent and separate body, as guaranteed by Article 128 and Article 130 of the Constitution," Cambodian ambassador wrote in the statement.

"Therefore yesterday release of Kem Sokha under judicial conditions was based on humanitarian act under the prerogative power of the investigating judge," the statement added.
