Phnom Penh (FN), Sept. 15 - Kantha Bopha Hospital is holding 100 days funeral for Dr. Beat Richner, the founder of Kantha Bopha Hospitals in Cambodia.

Hospital deputy director Heng Suthy said that the funeral opens to the general public for 100 days held at the hospital information center near Wat Phnom.

According to Suthy, Dr. Beat Richner first run the hospital with just 50-60 beds until over 2,000 beds and 2,500 employees. Every single day, it is estimated that the hospital serves 2,400 patients and provide medicines to 3,500.

He added that Dr. Beat worked even on weekends and vacations without caring about his own health. When he travelled, he did with only one purpose - to fundraise by using his cello.

Dr. Beat Richner passed away on 9 September 2018 in Swiss.

The Royal Government and the people of Cambodia, expressed condolences and deepest griefs of the passing of a hero who saved million lives of Cambodian children and women.

“In his demise, we have lost an extraordinary man whose selfless devotion have saved millions of Cambodian children and women’s lives since 1992,” the Prime Minister Hun Sen wrote in the letter.

The loss of Dr. Beat Richner is a huge loss of Cambodian health sector. May the soul of Dr. Beat Richner rest in peace.
