Phnom Penh (FN), May 23 – After a meeting with Cambodia National Election Committee, the delegate of Kofi Anan Foundation continued to hold a series of meeting and discussions with the Cambodian People’s Party and the Cambodia National Rescue Party respectively for discussions on elections-related issues.

Arriving on Sunday May 22, 2016, the delegate is scheduled to spend four days for a visit in Cambodia with the aim of getting to understand the issues related to elections in Cambodia.

CPP’s representative, Sok Ey San, who met with Kofi Anan delegate later on May 23, 2016, said that in the meeting the delegate would like to know about the establishment of the NEC and that the foundation would like to support the forthcoming elections so that they will be organized successfully. Mr. Sok Ey San also expressed support to the Kofi Anan foundation.

Mr. Sok Ey San emphasized that the meeting discussed only issues related to the elections and did not talk about human rights issues as reported by certain propagandists. Apart from meeting with the CPP’s representatives, the delegate also held a meeting and discussions with CNRP’s acting president, Kem Sokha, and the party’s senior officials.

The National Election Committee reshuffled its structure after the national elections in 2013. The new composition of the NEC is composed of nine members, four of which were selected by the party with majority of seats in the National Assembly and the other four were selected by the minority party. The ninth and independent member was elected upon the approval of both parties.
