TOKYO, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 rocked Japan's Chiba prefecture at 1:15 p.m. local time, Japan Meteorological Agency said Friday.

The temblor was centered in the northeastern part of the Chiba prefecture in eastern Japan, with the epicenter at a latitude of 35.7 degrees north and a longitude of 140.7 degrees east and at depth of 50 km.

The earthquake logged 4 in some areas of Chiba prefecture and 2 in Tokyo on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7.

So far no major damage or injuries were reported, and no tsunami warning has been issued.
