SAN BRUNO, Oct. 16 (CGTN) -- YouTube service has been restored after the Google-owned streaming company went dark for over an hour worldwide.

Thousands of YouTube users attempting to visit the site reported seeing a blank website frame instead of the usual homepage. Irritated users took to social media to confirm that their location was also experiencing the same access issues.

YouTube acknowledged the outage in a tweet. "We're working on resolving this and will let you know once fixed," the Team YouTube account said. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will keep you updated."

So far it's not clear what was behind the sudden breakdown.
