Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 18 – Cambodian National Assembly delegation issued a statement to the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU), expressing regret on IPU’s decision related to human rights and democracy. The delegation considered the decision biased to the opposition.

“My delegation is disappointed that even though we have provided credible and abundant information time and time again, the Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians seems not seriously take them into consideration, instead based on politically motivated and sided sources, the Committee has painted Cambodia with deep-dark brush in producing this biased Resolution ignoring the real need on the ground and the tragic path of hard-earned peace, stability and development of Cambodia,” the National Assembly delegation wrote in the statement dated on Thursday.

“The electoral process conducted in an orderly and most peaceful manner ever since with no threat, injuries, violence or intimidations signifies how democracy and human rights have deeply rooted in Cambodian society” the statement added.

IPU urged for political dialogues to restore political rights for CNRP parliamentarians, and respect for human rights and democratic process in Cambodia.

Apart from Cambodia, Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians also raised human rights concerns in Democratic Republic of Congo, Mauritania, Senegal, Uganda, Venezuela, Afghanistan, Malaysia, Maldives, the Philippines, Turkey, Palestine and Israel.
