Switzerland (FN), Oct. 23 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, on Monday, held bilateral talks with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet in Geneva, Switzerland.

During the meeting, Cambodian Prime Minister requested the UN High Commissioner to collaborate with Cambodia prior to assessing human rights issues rights in Cambodia.

Prime Minister Hun Sen said, "Although we have a different stance, the cooperation between Cambodia and the UNHCHR still continues, as Cambodia has extended two-year mandate of OHCHR Cambodia.”

He added that the cooperation between the United Nations and Cambodia will ensure a clear understanding and avoid uncooperative evaluation.

Michelle said that the OHCHR Cambodia Country Office is the oldest field presence of OHCHR. She thanked to the Royal Government of Cambodia for extending the two-year office mandate in Cambodia.

The High Commissioner noted Cambodia's progress in human rights, especially the rights of women, children, workers, rights to education and non-discrimination.

She also acknowledges that despite progresses, all countries still face challenges, thus, she will include all the Cambodian strengths in the reports and pledges to further cooperate and provide support to Cambodia.

Prime Minister invited Michelle Bachelet to pay an official visit to Cambodia at her conveniences.
