Phnom Penh (FN), Oct - The nine delegates of Colombian Landmine Specialist Engineering received training on how to operate mine-clearance machine and learned more on the demining operations in Cambodia from the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC), according to Heng Ratana, Director General of CMAC.

Ratana said that the training took five days with the support from the Japanese government and that Japan also aids seven demining machines to the Colombian government.

"This is the achievement of the Royal Government of Cambodia recognized by those war-torn countries with many mine and explosive remnants and for them to learn from,” Ratana said, adding that: “This is the national pride and success of Cambodia for providing her people with peace, security and development.

“Eradicating the fears of landmines, giving hope and building a prosperous future is our mission,” he underlined.

During the visit, the participants learned about mine action activities, visited mine clearance operations by using mine machinery and visited the CMAC's Peace Museum in Siem Reap.

CMAC has provided mine clearance training to hundreds of trainees from 15 different countries.
