Phnom Penh (FN), Sept. 21 – Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as the representative of Prime Minister of Hun Sen, will lead delegates to attend the 74th Session of the General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) under the theme “Galvanizing multilateral efforts for poverty eradication, quality education, climate action and inclusion”, and its relevant meetings from 24-28 September 2019 in New York, according to the ministry’s press release dated Friday.

Minister Prak Sokhonn will deliver his statement focusing on Cambodia’s socio-economic development, achievements on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), efforts towards the Sustainable Development Goals, and the importance of the collective efforts to address climate change, terrorism, extremism and radicalism, and non-conventional security threats. The new world order, multilateralism, roles of international law, negative impacts of fabricated news, and regional and international issues of common interest and concern will be also highlighted in the statement.

On the sidelines of the Session, Minister will hold separate bilateral meetings with H.E. Tomas Petricek, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, and H.E. Sergey V. Lavrov, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. He also expects to hold official talks with other Foreign Ministers of some countries and the Secretary-General of the United Nations respectively.

On the margins of the Session, the Cambodian delegates will also join the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) Informal Ministerial Meeting; the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Meeting; the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Ministerial Meeting; the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting; the Informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (IAMM), and the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with the President of the 74th General Assembly and the UN Secretary-General (AUMM) as well as other meetings.
