Phnom Penh (FN), August 2 – During the inauguration of National Road 44 in Kampong Speu province, about 50km to the west of Phnom Penh, on August 2, 2016, China’s Ambassador to Cambodia, Ms BU Jianguo, said the neutral position taken by Prime Minister Hun Sen in regard of the South China Sea issue and especially Cambodia’s failure to support the ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in favor of the Philippines was greatly applauded by both Chinese leaders and Chinese people.

Speaking during the ceremony on apparently in reference to online support, the Chinese Ambassador said there had been so many ‘Likes’ and support to the Prime Minister’s position. Chinese people also said they would come to visit Cambodia and to purchase Cambodian products as well, the Ambassador said.

This morning of August 2, 2016, Samdech Prime Minister Hun Sen was presiding over the inauguration of National Road 44 in Kampong Speu with the attendance of the China’s Ambassador, many senior government officials and local people.
The stretch of 139.60km-long of National Road 44 is being built by China Road &Bridge Construction Corporation with a total cost of $80.30 million of concession loan from China together with the government contribution.
