PHNOM PENH (FN), August 10 – The Australian Embassy in Cambodia issued a statement today, August 10, 2016 acknowledging concerns expressed by Cambodian people over the case of Australian MP, Mr. Hong Lim.

“We recognize the concerns this particular matter has raised. Australia values its strong and enduring relationship with Cambodia and we look forward to this continuing,” the statement reads.

The Embassy said that the remarks made by Mr. Hong Lim, the MP from Victoria state does not reflect the opinion or the position of the Australian government nor of the Australian parliament, the statement said.

The Australian Embassy made the statement after many senior government officials, members of civil society, the army and ordinary people came out one after another to condemn Mr. Hong Lim, the Australian MP, over a statement in which he called the current Cambodia regime as “an evil.”
