ANKARA, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — A car bombing launched by Kurdish Workers' Party militants hit a police checkpoint in Turkey's southeastern Sirnak province early Friday, Dogan News Agency reported.

According to initial reports, the attack took place at 6:40 a.m. local time (0340 GMT). The checkpoint building was seriously damaged.

Details on casualties have not been clear yet, but ambulances and health officials have rushed to the scene.
