PHNOM PENH (FN), 5 Oct. – Over the last nine months of 2016, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as well as Cambodia diplomatic missions abroad have rescued a total of 578 Cambodians overseas, according to a press release issued today by the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

By September 28 of 2016, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cambodian missions overseas have rescued and helped repatriate 578 Cambodian nationals from a number of foreign countries. Of these, 174 were from Vietnam, 150 from Malaysia, 133 from Thailand, 57 from Indonesia, 47 from China, 09 from Japan, 3 from Singapore, 2 from Russia and one from Laos, Saudi Arabia, and Australia respectively, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Moreover, by September 19, 2016 the Ministry has also assisted with processing of paperwork on visa application to Thailand for a total of 14,890 Cambodian workers based on a signed Memorandum of Understanding, and another 5,965 workers have been sent to work in South Korea by September 05, 2016. The Ministry has also helped solving problems encountered by those workers, the press release said.
