Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 24 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen, on Saturday, rejected the request for political rehabilitation from two former senior officials of the dissolved opposition party CNRP due to their serious law violations.

Premier Hun Sen told Fresh News CEO Lim Chea Vutha in an exclusive interview on Saturday that he turned down the requests to re-enter politics submitted by Nhim Kim Nhol and Choung Chou Ngy.

Nhim Kim Nhol gathered former CNRP activists in Thailand and outsiders to prepare for the plot to overthrow the government when convict Sam Rainsy claimed to repatriate on 9 November 2019. With the above action, Sihanoukville Provincial Court has issued an arrest warrant and is preparing for the trial of Nhim Kim Nhol on charges of conspiracy.

Choung Chou Ngy, through his social media, fabricated the Law on the Election of Members of the National Assembly to mislead the public in order to prevent people, who have the right to vote, from going to the polls in 2018. The National Election Committee filed and submitted this complaint to the Ministry of Justice for review. The case is currently under the authority of Phnom Penh Municipal Court.

As of July 2021, at least 22 of the banned CNRP politicians were rehabilitated, including former top advisor Kong Korm and lawmaker Kong Bora, rehabilitated on 15 January 2019; Sim Vanny on 2 March 2019; former Svay Rieng representative Real Khemarin on 18 March 2019; former CNRP lawmakers Ou Chanrath, Kang Kimhak, Chiv Kata, Tep Sothy, and former party board member Chan Seila were rehabilitated on 19 March 2019; former lawmaker Son Chhay, Tav Kim Chhorn, Var Samon, Sun Sopheak, Ly Srey Vyna, Thach Setha, Yem Ponharith, Muth Chantha, Chum Chandarin, Tuot Yoeut, Lat Lithey, Long Kimkhon and Yong Phannet, Pol Horm, and Phan Chansak.
