Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 21 – Former Cambodian top diplomat Hor Namhong considered the official visit of Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen to Myanmar the right decision, adding that those who criticized the premier’s visit failed to understand the ASEAN five-point consensus.

“Anyone who criticizes premier Hun Sen’s visit do not understand and might not have read the concept of five-point consensus. The premier's visit has paved way to resolve the Myanmar crisis,” Hor Namhong underlined.

He also praised the ASEAN Troika’s initiative, which the past, current, and future ASEAN chair jointly work together in order to resolve the Myanmar crisis.

The five-point consensus include:

1. Immediate cessation of violence in Myanmar and all parties to exercise utmost restraint.

2. Constructive dialogue among all parties concerned shall commence to seek a peaceful solution in the interests of the people.

3. The special envoy of ASEAN chair to facilitate mediation of the dialogue process, with the assistance of the ASEAN Secretary-General.

4. ASEAN to provide humanitarian assistance through the AHA centre,

5. Special envoy and delegation to visit Myanmar to meet all parties concerned.

During Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen’s recent visit, Myanmar’s senior general Min Aung Hlaing informed Cambodian premier Hun Sen that the Myanmar government had declared a five-month ceasefire with all Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) until the end of February 2022 and decided to further extend it until end of 2022. He assured the facilitation of the visit of the special envoy to Myanmar and to meet with all parties concerned including EAOs taking into account of the prevailing situation in Myanmar.
