Phnom Penh (FN), Jan 12 – Battambang’s irrigation system with the capacity to store 286 million cubic meters of water has achieved 98% and will be completed by April, said Prime Minister Hun Sen.

According to the premier’s Facebook page, the multi-purpose dam, located in Ratanak Mondol district, will generate 1,310 megawatts of hydroelectricity power, prevent flood, and supply water to four districts in the province: Ratanak Mondol, Banan, Sangke, and Mong Russey.

The water stored in the reservoir will run through Steung Sangke and distribute through major and minor canals to irrigate 59,000 hectares of rice fields.

The project started in 2014 with the investment of $102 million.
