Phnom Penh (FN), Jan 13 – Cambodian Minister of Commerce requested Japan to invest on light industry until it reaches the industry's skill potential.

The request was made during the meeting between Japan’s Ambassador to Cambodia, Hidehisa Horinouchi, and Cambodian Minister of Commerce Pan Sorasak in Phnom Penh.

Pan Sorasak told the Japanese Ambassador the potential of agricultural sector, particularly the processing of rice and cassava, and requested Japan to assist on issues of food safety to enhance trade effectiveness.

In response to the request, the Ambassador promised to mobilize Japanese investors to promote Cambodia's Industrial Development Policy. The Japanese Ambassador strongly believes Cambodia will achieve rapid economic growth in the near future and that Japan will continue to assist Cambodia on all sectors owing to the strong diplomatic relation and mutual assistance.

Hidehisa Horinouchi also made official request to the Cambodian government to vote in favor of Japan to host 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Japan.
