Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 19 – On 17 October 2022, the National University of Management in Cambodia held the Graduation Ceremony for Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate Degree Graduates. The ceremony was attended by Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen and his spouse Bun Rany Hun Sen. Hang Chuon Naron, minister of education, youth and sports of cambodia presented the Honorary Doctorate of the “International Business Management” to Jonathan K.S. Choi , chairman of Sunwah Group and graduation certificates to 6,411 students from the National University of Management.

The Honorary Doctorate Degree in International Business Management for Janathan K.S. Choi, chairman of Sunwah Group introduced many achievements on the business investment of Sunwah Group in many fields including innovation, technology, exchange, research, educational and investment not only in Cambodia, but also in many other countries and regions. The Honorary Doctorate Degree from the National University of Management of Cambodia is the honorary doctorate that Janathan K.S. Choi has received after Hong Kong, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Vietnam’s.

On the same day, Sunwah Cambodia held the conferment of Honorary Doctorate degree dinner party for congratulating Jonathan K.S. Choi, Chairman of Sunwah Group at Sunwah Cambodia Headquarters in the evening. Distinguished guests including Long Ponna Sarivath, the secretary of state from the Ministry of Culture & Fine Arts, Sann Vattana, the under secretary of state from the Ministry of Education, Hor Peng, the rector from the National University of Management in Cambodia and many other chambers of commerce members and corporates participated in the grand event.

In the opening remarks, Hor Peng, rector of the National University of Management congratulated Jonatha K.S. Choi, chairman of Sunwah Group for his Honorable Doctoral Degree from the National University of Management (NUM), and said, “Choi’s dedications and contributions to Cambodia in a wide range of education, economy and culture in particular to NUM, these would enhance the developments of Cambodia especially the younger generations who benefit from the generous collaboration and initiatives to foster Cambodian economic growth in the long future.” And he added that “National University of Management (NUM) expressed profoundly thanks to Jonathan K.S. Choi on providing 4 master degree scholarship places to students per year and especially sponsors on the cultural center and iLAB together with the facility developments and he hopes both institutions cooperation will be in the run.”

At the dinner party, Jonathan K.S. Choi, Chairman of Sunwah Group mentioned “Sunwah Group has been doing business in Cambodia for nearly 30 years. Over the years, we have shown our strong commitment to the development of Cambodia through our business investment and public service projects. Starting from the seafood business in 1995, we moved to real estate in 2002 with the Sunwah Victory project. Sunwah Pearl Phnom Penh, our latest world class residential and commercial project, has just been launched with a ground-breaking ceremony in July this year.”

Choi added, “As I am a businessman, I have spent many decades building a global conglomerate. As my company played its small part in the rapid spread of globalized trading and investment, it became increasingly obvious to me that with first-hand experience of how various nations function – their different cultures, their ethnic traditions, their beliefs and mindsets – there comes understanding, and along with that cooperation.”

Jonathan K.S. Choi also mentioned that “the language of business is universal, the concepts of profit and loss, efficient management and a motivated workforce are understood by all. It was in realizing this that I developed my dream of trying to bring countries together by helping to facilitate greater interaction. Such considerations have led us to establish the Sunwah Foundation and the Jonathan KS Choi Foundation to promote international exchanges in education, technology and culture.

Jonathan K.S. Choi, the founding chairman of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Entrepreneurs Union also conferred the award to the executive vice-chairman Jesse Choi. Since Mr. Jesse Choi was elected as the chairman of The China Hong Kong & Macau Expatriate & Business of Cambodia. Thus, he is also the Executive vice-chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Union. The Union has successfully invited chairmen of Chinese chambers of commerce from over 10 countries to serve as the Union’s executive vice-chairman. The Union’s Presidium has members from the Association of South-East Asian Nations, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and many other countries and regions. Overseas Chinese business leaders from various countries will of course become the Executive vice-chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Entrepreneurs Union.

Over the years, Sunwah Group has contributed to Cambodia with many things including the social and public services projects, education, technology exchanges and especially the culture. Sunwah Cambodia will grow and expand tremendously in the future.
