Phnom Penh (FN), Feb 10 – The Cambodian government plans to discuss a revision to an agreement with the U.S regarding the repatriation ofCambodians who have engaged in criminal activities.

“Cambodia wants the agreement to make the U.S to exile Cambodians with consent from those who are being arrested of committing offenses,” according to Khieu Sopheak, spokesman of Interior Ministry.

The Cambodian government and the U.S government signed an agreement in 2002 to deport and receive Cambodian offenders residing in the U.S.

Since 2002, the U.S government has exiled more than 500 Cambodians.

“The U.S exiles Cambodians based on even misdemeanors, which puts high pressure on them because they are separated from their wives and children,” he added.
