Phnom Penh (FN), Feb 27 - Prime Minister Hun Sen said Monday that the growth of visitors relies heavily on country’s peace and stability.

Tourists will certainly not risk to visit a war zone like what Cambodia had encountered in the past or like what is happening in the Middle East and some countries in Africa, the premier said at the celebration of National Clean City Day in Phnom Penh.

“Why no one visited Angkor Wat temple in the 1970’s, where it was a tourist attraction?...War was the main reason,” said the premier.

Hun Sen, meanwhile, stated "peace, stability and the fight against terrorism are all very significant for Cambodia. Thus, whatever cost, peace must be first maintained and the rest can be followed through."

The Premier said he realizes and respects human rights, but he will not allow two or three individuals' rights to destroy the whole nation.

In 2016, Cambodia achieved a 5% growth in tourism last year and expected to attract more tourists in 2017.
