Phnom Penh (FN), March 23 – According to a Phnom Penh Municipal Court (PPMC)’s official, the PPMC will announce the verdict of Choup Somlab, the man who murdered well-known political commentator Kem Ley, on Thursday morning.

The verdict follows a hearing on March 1st, 2017 in which video footage of the killing was shown.

During the hearing, “Choup Somlab”, translated as “Meet Kill," confessed that he murdered Kem Ley because Kem Ley owed him debt. He has testified that no one else was behind the murder.

Oeuth Ang, known as "Choup Samlab" was arrested July 10, 2016, after being accused of murdering Kem Ley, a popular social and political analyst, in the country's capital, Phnom Penh.

He has been charged with premeditated murder and unauthorized possession of weapons under Article 200 and 490 of the criminal code.
