Phnom Penh – Dispersed by the police, civil-society people and land activists failed to perform their planned ritual worships on Veng Sreng Road, this morning meant to be in memory of the dead during a demonstration two years ago.

Chief of Po Senchey Police, Yem Sarann, said that by 10:40 A.M., a group of around 50 civil society people and land activists gathering on Veng Sreng Road, Po Senchey district, have been dispersed by the police and without anybody getting hurt. He added that the preventive measure was carried out in compliance with the notice by Phnom Penh City Hall.

The City Hall issued a notice yesterday to governors of Po Senchey and Meanchey districts with the instruction that all kinds of events to be organized along Veng Sreng Road today, January 3, 2016 would not be allowed for the reasons of maintaining public order, social security and to avoid gridlocks and jams in that area.
