HO CHI MINH CITY, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam will spend some 850 million U.S. dollars to upgrade and expand Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City by 2020, under a proposal by the country's Civil Aviation Administration.

Under the proposal recently submitted to the Vietnamese Transport Ministry for approval, the fund will be spent on constructing new and upgrading existing runways, terminals and transport networks around the overloaded airport, the airport authorities said on Tuesday.

By 2020, the airport, with a parking space for 80 aircraft, will serve 43 million to 45 million passengers a year. At that time, it will have three new runways and one new terminal.

The airport currently has three terminals capable of annually serving 28 million passengers.

Ho Chi Minh City plans to construct a flyover to link Truong Son Street with the airport.
