Phnom Penh (FN), May 2 – Sok Eysan, spokesman of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), reacted to a statement released by Freedom House that accused the CPP of restricting journalists and the press.

Freedom House stated that the CPP is suppressing the voice of journalists.

The charge came after RFA Deputy Director, Chun Chanbuth, was threatened with charges after being accused of sneaking into the notorious Prey Sar prison.

Meanwhile, the courts have struck down the pending charges after Chun fled to the U.S.

“The government does not overcheck the content of every broadcast, including tape, magazines, newsletters, television, and radio before broadcasting like in other countries. Is this a restriction on Freedom of press?" asked Sok Eysan.

“Freedom House has accused the CPP without proper ground, and is biased to the opposition party,” he added.
