Phnom Penh (FN), Jan 21. – Ministry of Cults and Fine Arts announced Jan. 21 that UNESCO has issued a certificate in recognition that the Khmer traditional game of “Tug of War” had been inscribed as Human Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The Certificate Presentation Ceremony was held at Cambodia’s National Museum under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Sok An, on behalf Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Four countries namely Cambodia, South Korea, Vietnam, and the Philippines that all share this Tug of War game have come up with a joint request since 2003 for UNESCO to inscribe this game as Human Intangible Cultural Heritage. The decision by UNESCO on the inscription was made on Dec. 2, 2015.
