Phnom Penh (FN), May 26 – The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has rejected the Committee for Free and Fair Election in Cambodia (COMFREL)’s statement concerning actions the MoD has threatened to take if conflict should arise during the upcoming election.

The MoD has regarded COMFREL's voiced concerns as unacceptable.

“COMFREL’s statement has insulted the honor, duty, and responsibilities of the RCAF. It is a serious affront to the RCAF,” MoD wrote in a press release on Friday.

COMFREL publicized their unease after the MoD warned that they would squash any public outcry or civil disobedience during elections.

Civil societies have expressed deep concerns over the commune-council election.

The MoD has reassured that the actions the ministry will take would not affect the election process; rather, it would serve to promote security for the process.
