Phnom Penh (FN), June 20 – Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn believes that young Cambodian are capable enough and possess enough skills and knowledge to contend for good jobs within ASEAN markets.

He also thinks that Cambodian young people have the opportunity to hold positions of authority in large companies in ASEAN countries.

"In the short term, Cambodian youth will become more professional in working for big companies in ASEAN countries," the minister said during the Awarding Ceremony of Special ASEAN Quiz 2017 at the MoFA on Tuesday.

"The presence of our youth in the ASEAN labor market is much more diverse, showing that Cambodia has enough skilled workers and as an active member of ASEAN, contributes to the growth of the ASEAN community as well as the development of Cambodia's economy," he added.

The foreign affairs minister went on to state that the next generation of leaders must strive for preparedness and be sufficiently capable of pursuing and maintaining achievements.

Young people need to remember that development can work as long as peace is maintained. Their duty to safeguard this peace.

The opening of the ASEAN markets will provide many opportunities for ASEAN members. The minister urged students to work hard and learn the skills that they will need in order to meet market needs.

According to 2015 statistics, there are 628 million people in ASEAN countries. 161 million (25.61%), of the population is between 15 and 29 years old, of which 4.81 million are Cambodian youth.
