Phnom Penh (FN), June 21 - The European Union (EU), the main international partner of the National Election Committee (NEC), has promised to continue supporting NEC during the 2018 election process.

Funds and technical assistance will be provided as well, according to Khorn Keo Mono, director of communication.

The Ambassador of the European Union to Cambodia, George Edgar, reiterated the pledge to NEC Secretary-General Sik Bun Hok and others on Tuesday.

“The EU has not issued any official statement on the 4th mandate of the commune election, but will issue a formal announcement after the NEC declares the official results,” said Khorn Keo Mono.

“The EU has provided aid, funding, consulting and sending technical experts to help with NEC. JICA also supports NEC,” he added.

Sik Bun Hok asked the EU to continue to guide and improve the voting process in order to ensure elections run smoothly in the future.

The official results of the 4th mandate of the Commune election will be announced on June 25, 2017.
