NEW DELHI, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday embarked on a three-nation visit, officials said.

He will visit Portugal, the United States and the Netherlands during the course of his four-day tour.

A government spokesman quoted Modi as saying the visit is aimed at enhancing the bilateral engagement in various areas.

Modi will first be reaching Portuguese capital, Lisbon on Saturday afternoon. He said during his visit to Portugal both countries will discuss ways to further enhance bilateral engagement in the areas of economic cooperation, science and technology, space collaboration and people to people ties.

From Portugal, the Indian prime minister will depart for the U.S. capital, Washington D.C..

Modi said during his U. S. visit (from Saturday to Monday), he will look forward to having an indepth exchange of views on further consolidating wide ranging partnership between India and the United States.

He will be meeting U.S. President Donald Trump and it will be the first meeting between the two leaders.

On Tuesday, Modi will visit the Netherlands.
