PHNOM PENH (FN), Feb. 1 — A senior Funcinpec official denied today a reported split between the party’s president and vice president while refusing to answer to an anonymous letter alleging and criticizing the internal division under the current leadership of the party’s current president.

“Funcinpec shelters under a single roof with Prince Ranariddh being the leader without any disunity,” said the party’s Secretary General Say Hak to reporters in a press conference on Feb.1 at Funcinpec headquarters.

Say Hak explained that Funcinpec is currently working in compliance with the party’s bylaw which was approved at its general congress in March 2015 namely on developing the party’s structure and installing party signs all across the country.

“The party is always moving forward in mobilizing royalists and Sihanoukists to join force in addressing national issues and develop the country further,” the official said.

Anyway, many media outlets have reported that the party is on the brink of split when its vice president Nhiek Bun Chhay claimed that the party, since the return of Prince Norodom Ranariddh to the party’s presidency, had seen many members defecting.

In an open letter addressed to the party president, Prince Ranariddh, dated Jan. 31, a group of party members sympathetic with Nhiek Bun Chhay, said the decision made recently by the prince had caused a serious internal conflict especially his decision to form a Discipline Council to sanction Nhiek Bun Chhay.
