Phnom Penh (FN), July 31 - The government issued a statement that the working group of the Ministry of Labor will launch a campaign to provide required legal documents to Cambodians working starting from August 1.

“Thai side agreed at the request of launching the 100-day campaign to provide legal documents to 160,000 workers”, according to a statement released on Monday.

Minister of Labor, Ith Sam Heng recalled that, the Ministry of Labor and relevant ministries previously issued passports to Cambodian workers in Thailand in 2015.

Only 70,000 were handed over and another 160,000 were not.

There are more than one million Cambodian workers in Thailand, of whom over 700,000 are legal workers, while more than 300,000 remain unaccredited.

This statement was made after the Thai government has issued a new law, having severe punishments for foreign workers and Thai employers who illegally engage or accept foreign workers working illegally.
