HANOI, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 1,600 cases of grade students fighting inside and outside schools in Vietnam are reported in an academic year in recent years, or some five cases a day, local media quoted statistics from the country's Ministry of Education and Training as reporting on Tuesday.

Some of the cases have been so serious, such as using knives, swords or self-made guns, that relevant individuals have been prosecuted, daily newspaper Tien Phong (Pioneer) reported.

Many fights stemmed from minor reasons like unfriendly or scornful stares at each other. In late June, two 15-year-old female students from Vu Ngoc Phan High School in Hanoi capital, Nguyen Thi Thuy and Nguyen Thi Trang, exchanged punches and kicks just because Thuy claimed that Trang had looked at her in a hostile manner.

According to the statistics, there is one case of fighting for every 5,200 grade students, and there is one case of being expelled from school due to fighting for every 11,000 students.
